NEED HELP?
IS YOUR VEHICLE PERFORMANCE ABNORMAL ESPECIALLY AFTER RECENT SERVICE OR INSTALLATION?
HERE ARE A FEW IDEAS TO HELP POINT YOU IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION:
- Vehicles can have many complex variables that directly & indirectly contribute to how a turbocharger performs. A perfectly operational turbocharger may exhibit erratic or lack of performance due to other system problems included but not limited to fueling, boost leaks, unstable or loose connections, electrical systems, fuses & sensors, internal engine issues or tuning. As an exclusive turbocharger supplier/manufacturer Turbo Time USA is unable to offer vehicle troubleshooting/tech advice or diagnostics for your specific vehicle. Customers experiencing performance concerns will need to have their vehicle inspected & diagnosed by a reputable certified service center. -
FAQs
MY NEW TURBO HAS "SHAFT PLAY". IS IT BAD?
- MANY TURBOCHARGERS HAVE VARYING RANGES OF "PLAY" OR SIDE TO SIDE MOVEMENT. JOURNAL BEARING TURBOS REQUIRE SPACE WITHIN THE BEARING SYSTEM ALLOWING OIL FLOW TO SUSTAIN A BARRIER OF OIL STABILIZING THE SHAFT DURING OPERATION.
- IT IS NOT UNCOMMON TO NOTICE INCREASED MOVEMENT AFTER OPERATION WHEN THE TURBO AND OIL IS UP TO OPERATING TEMPERATURE. MATERIAL EXPANDS ALLOWING ADDITIONAL MOVEMENT.
WHAT IS THAT NOISE?
- BAD CONNECTION POINTS OR LEAKS CAN PRODUCE DIFFERENT NOISES & LEVELS OF VOLUME.
- LEAKS ARE OFTEN TRICKY TO FIND AND MAY REQUIRE SPECIFIC TOOLS & TECHNIQUES TO LOCATE.
- ENSURE YOU HAVE ADEQUATE OIL PRESSURE
- ENSURE COMPRESSOR WHEEL IS MAKING CONTACT WITH THE HOUSING.
DOES YOUR TURBO SEEM "LAGGY" OR NOT PRODUCING BOOST?
- INSTALLING A LARGER PERFORMANCE TURBOCHARGER MAY CAUSE A MISCOMMUNICATION BETWEEN THE VGT SYSTEM & ECU. OFTEN TIMES A "VGT RELEARN" OR TUNE CAN HELP RESET THIS & HAVE YOU RUNNING EFFICIENTLY.
- POSSIBLE FUEL DELIVERY PROBLEM WITHIN YOUR FUEL SYSTEM .
- DURING SERVICE OR INSTALLATIONS SOMETIMES NEW PROBLEMS ARISE OR CONNECTIONS NOT CORRECT.
- CHECK FOR LEAKS
WHY AM I NOT SEEING MORE BOOST PSI?
- PERFORMANCE TURBOCHARGERS ARE DESIGNED TO PRODUCE AND PROCESS MORE CFM PER PSI INCREASING POWER AND EFFICIENCY. THEREFORE YOU CAN EXPERIENCE MORE POWER AT THE SAME PSI AS YOUR PREVIOUS TURBO.
- INCREASING FUEL SUPPORT WILL HELP PRODUCE HIGHER BOOST PSI.
- TUNING CAN CONTROL OR LIMIT THE AMOUNT OF BOOST PRODUCED.
- THE VGT SYSTEM CAN BE MANIPULATED IN TUNING.
- FACTORY SENSORS AND MONITOR SYSTEMS OFTEN LIMIT BOOST READINGS. ANALOG GAUGES HELP DISPLAY MORE ACCURATE READINGS.
WHY DO I HAVE ABNORMAL PERFORMANCE & CEL CODES?
- ENSURE SENSORS ARE CLEAN & CONNECTED PROPERLY
- CHECK FOR BLOWN FUSES
- CHECK FOR LEAKS
- CHECK FUEL
- CHECK AIR FILTER
